CapeCodCanalTransit.jpg (210719 bytes)
For the first time on this northern journey, Janet and I were seeing new things, like the Cape Cod Canal pictured here.  (7/13/03)

CapeCodSunset.jpg (153743 bytes)
This sunset, followed by an equally impressive full moon, made our passage from Block Island to Kittery, Maine a wonderful trip..  (7/13/03)

KitteryPepperrellCoveMaine.jpg (125987 bytes)
We made it to Maine.  This is Pepperrell Cove in Kittery, Maine, just across the harbor is New Hampshire..   (7/14/03)

HusseySoundPeaksIslandFog.jpg (85766 bytes)
Fog and poor visibility plagued our all-day sail from Kittery to Casco Bay.  This picture was taken as we were entering Casco Bay with some of the best visibility of the trip.  We left Kittery barely being able to see our bow.   (7/15/03)
HusseySoundLongIsland.jpg (142973 bytes)
As soon as we entered Casco Bay, the fog left as quickly as it had arrived.  These are some of the lovely homes that appeared on Long Island.  (7/15/03)
PenobscotBayWhiteheadLight.jpg (131326 bytes)PenobscotBayOwlsHeadLight.jpg (138138 bytes)
If you love lighthouses, and we do, then Maine has plenty to see.  That's Whitehead Light on the left and the light on Owl's Head Island on the right -- both in Penobscot Bay.  (7/18/03)
PenobscotBayValkyrieSailing.jpg (138163 bytes)
One of the best things about cruising is running into old friends.  Valkyrie, and her crew, are friends from North Carolina shown here under full sail on a clear Maine day.  (7/19/03)
SealBayRaftUpView.jpg (159704 bytes)
Charbonneau and Valkyrie rafted together in the protection of Seal Bay, Vinalhaven Island.  (7/20/03)
SealBayGroupShot.jpg (180763 bytes)
Group shot of the two crews: (L-R) Don, Yates, Greg, Blaine, Janet, and Nick  (7/20/03)
SealBayBaileyCloseUp.jpg (186785 bytes)
Bailey peers out from the cockpit and asks, "Why don't you take me to shore?"  (7/20/03)
SealBayMaxBaileyResting.jpg (256366 bytes)
So we took him (and Max) to shore.  They really like climbing and then lounging around on all the big rocks.  (7/20/03)
SharkCageNick.jpg (83364 bytes)SealBayNickPointsTheWay.jpg (158864 bytes)
We last saw Nick, Don's son, during our first year of cruising.  He posed for us inside the shark cage at Nauticus in Norfolk.  Now, a few years older, he points the way atop a rock in Seal Bay.   (7/20/03)
SealBayYatesModelsSeaweedWig1.jpg (170048 bytes)
The picture of the day, however, goes to Yates shown here modeling the next big rage is hair design:  seaweed dreadlocks.  There may be modeling in his future.   (7/20/03)
PenobscotBayFogSailing.jpg (137165 bytes)
Remember the clear skies in the five previous photos.  This is the same day after the fog rolled in for our sail.  (7/20/03)
BradburyIslandFog.jpg (133014 bytes)
Just as quickly as the fog covered us, it pulled away.  Here is Bradbury Island being magically unveiled.   (7/20/03)
BlastowCoveEatonsLobster.jpg (213164 bytes)
Sailing in the fog wasn't for naught.  We were sailing to Eaton's Lobster Pool and Restaurant for dinner.  Love those bibs!  (7/20/03)
PenobscotBayValkyrieFogSailing.jpg (108677 bytes)
While we were eating dinner, the fog rolled back in again.  Valkyrie led the way to our final anchoring spot.   (7/20/03)
BelfastMaxBaileyBahamaBear.jpg (187513 bytes)
Max and Bailey hanging out with a cool bear dressed in tropical clothing in Belfast, Maine.  They felt right at home with the sand around the bear's feet.  (7/25/03)
