BaileyBacon.jpg (154723 bytes)
Bailey has a nose for bacon.  Here he's peeking in at Janet, hoping for a little taste of our breakfast bacon.  (9/30/05)

JanetTeak2005_2.jpg (182031 bytes)JanetTeak2005_1.jpg (196751 bytes)
It's teak time again.  Janet applies the last few coats of Cetol while we wait for the boat show in Annapolis (9/30/2005)

BoatShow2005_1.jpg (177722 bytes)BoatShow2005_2.jpg (132582 bytes)BoatShow2005_3.jpg (129156 bytes)
Boat show time again and Annapolis makes an overnight dock change - drive the pilings, drag in floating docks, add boats.  Amazing process.  (10/3/2005)
JanetThisSucks2005_1.jpg (157691 bytes)
If you check our archives, you'll find a photo of Janet bundled up each year as we turn the boat south.  When she says, 'This sucks!' - we know it's time to head south (10/12/05)
HotSoupColdDays1.jpg (190189 bytes)
Too rough and cold for a proper lunch, so Blaine digs into his offshore meals - hot Ramen noodles.   (10/12/2005)
RoughDayOnTheBay2005.jpg (129756 bytes)
A bumpy ride down the Chesapeake Bay.  North winds at 25-30 knots made for 4-6' seas and top speeds of 10.7 knots for Charbonneau.  What a great (cold wet) ride!  (10/13/2005)
RussellBMurrayTug1.jpg (138040 bytes)
The Russell B. Murray tug and tow chases us from behind.  Look for an article on tugs and tows (and things to know) in the next few weeks.  (10/13/2005)
BaySailingBlaineTethered.jpg (165860 bytes)
Lots of hand steering and harnesses with tethers were required on our sail down the Bay with high winds and building seas. (10/13/2005)
ReedvilleVaChiterchats2005_1.jpg (263843 bytes)ReedvilleVaChiterchats2005_2.jpg (227724 bytes)
Cruisers take note; there's a great place for homemade ice cream and friendly service.  Stop by and see Cheryl at her Chitterchats gossip parlor the next time you're in Reedville, VA -- or make a special trip.  It's worth your time! (10/14/2005)
BirdPassenger1_2005.jpg (130024 bytes)BirdPassenger2_2005.jpg (158258 bytes)
A small bird took refuge aboard Charbonneau as we sailed down the Bay towards Norfolk.  Cute little fella stayed for quite a while  (10/15/2005)
RaftedNCVisitorsCenter2_2005.jpg (200615 bytes)
October is always a busy time on the waterways.  Here 8 boat raft up at the NC Visitor's Center along the Dismal Swamp Canal.  (10/16/2005)
NamasteDog.jpg (158681 bytes)
Boating is a dog's life.  Here's another boat dog aboard the trawler 'Namaste' (10/16/2005)
BaileyCap_2005.jpg (160466 bytes)
Bailey poses with a fleece cap -- time to go south!  (10/17/2005)
ElizabethCityReception1_2005.jpg (174399 bytes)ColonelPrettyman-BeckAndMrFearing_2005.jpg (211554 bytes)
Elizabeth City is known for it's hospitality and the boaters wine & cheese parties hosted by the Rose Buddies.  Today was a double treat because Colonel Yvonne Prettyman-Beck from the Corps of Engineers joined us.  She has been responsible for maintaining the Dismal Swamp Canal since 2003.  She posed here with Fred Fearing - Rose Buddies.  (10/17/2005)
ElizabethCityFullMoon2005.jpg (164493 bytes)
A beautiful full moon over the Pasquatank River, Elizabeth City (10/17/2005)
CharbonneauValveTrain1.jpg (223512 bytes)
Why no updates, you may ask?  Well, during a normal maintenance interval, I noticed oil weeping from three cylinder head bolts.  We retorqued the bolts, but ultimately had to replace the head gasket - i.e. take the entire engine apart.  YIKES!   I've circled the tell-tale bolts in this photo. (10/30/2005)
CharbonneauCylinderHeadRemoval.jpg (215599 bytes)CharbonneauBareEngineBlock.jpg (211701 bytes)CharbonneauValveAdjustment.jpg (198537 bytes)
A very scary (but interesting) job of removing the cylinder, doing some clean up, replacing the gasket and adjusting the valves.  You may see this project written up in Blue Water Sailing (and here too!).  You can prevent what happened to us with some easy maintenance tips.   (10/30/2005)
HeadProject1.jpg (240283 bytes)HeadProject2.jpg (166448 bytes)
It must be a 'head' theme.  First the head cylinder gasket and now clogged head hoses.  There are times when cruising really stinks! (10/30/2005)

All's well -- the engine is running great after the major service..
