This summer/fall
cruise began with some much needed maintenance, like a new genset,
repairing a blown exhaust elbow and some corrosion control on the aft
end of the engine. (8/15/05)
One of our
favorite anchorages is a little spot just west of the Alligator-Pungo canal on our way through NC. Here's a photo of a typical sunset
there -- now you know why it's a favorite! (8/25/05)
Fred Fearing
(Age 91) is still going strong as the Rose Buddies welcoming committee
to Elizabeth City. Janet shows off her freshly picked rose.

The Pasquatank
River is always an amazing place to be in the still of an early morning
- shown here on our way to the South Mills Lock of the Dismal Swamp
Canal (8/27/05)
Charbonneau
churns up the morning stillness on the Pasquatank River. (8/27/05)
Is it St.
Patrick's Day? No, just a pollen covered passage through the last 10
miles of the upper Pasquatank River. Eerie to see and push through.
(8/27/05)
Bailey enjoys
the morning view -- a little older than he was on his last cruise.
(8/27/05)
The Pasquatank
and Dismal Swamp Canal always offer the opportunity to see
wildlife. Here a small deer has just swam across the river in
front of us. (8/27/05)
Janet tends the
bow line as we lock into the Dismal Swamp Canal (8/27/05)
Janet gets a
little navigation help from Bailey (8/27/05)
After the lock
comes the South Mills Bridge -- also run by the lockmaster (8/27/05)
New stone
markers have replaced the older ones that measure the miles through the
Dismal Swamp Canal. (8/27/05)
No Dismal Swamp
Canal visit would be complete without a visit to the NC Visitor's
Center. We spent the night at their FREE dock. (8/28/05)
A new Welcome To
Virginia sign greets us on the Dismal Swamp Canal (8/28/05)
Deep Creek Lock
has a new palm tree growing and lots of shells left from cruising boats
as they passed through. The Deep Creek sign gives distances to
some of our favorite places (8/27/05)
